Thought the snow was going to beat us on this occasion. I looked at the forecast.. and there was no reason i should have been surprised to be driving through a blizzard on the way both there, and back (yes, we made it). Dublin was frozen.. the roads weren’t for the faint hearted. As we approached a very icy, very slightly uphill road in the city and there was a similar sized van being desperately persuaded up it by quite a number of people pushing on foot. I felt like that would be the end of the road.. but somehow, we made it.. and didn’t kill any pedestrians either… Bonus.

After a meander through the Dublin ice rink, we got to the Olympia relatively early and were rewarded with access to the front pit.. I didn’t realize I wanted this at the time. We were also personally invited by the band to the after party (via a flyer).. which is nice.

The support band – Julie amusingly said as they made there way onto the stage, through a paper burst, “I hate them already”. Inevitably they were actually quite good.. and I even remember there name (Surfer Blood).. which has to be the real test of any support act.

Interpol played and all was golden, the sound, lights and selection of tracks were almost faultless. For a band on there fourth album it was a perfect selection of there relative hits and songs I just wanted to hear. Only issue we concluded is that the do all rather sound the same. This band are painfully cool, they wear suits and have slick back hair, even the way the lead guitarist walks is mesmerizing, to say the least.

So we headed home in the ever so purdy, ever so perilous snow and eventually, guided by gritter lorry’s, in the wee hours of the night, found shelter.

The whole trip felt like more of an expedition than a night at a gig, and therefore, as I was wired on stress, I imagine this night will be remembered for a very long time.
